The Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) platform, designed by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB),  to automate the admissions process into Nigeria’s higher institutions. In addition, it also assures that the admissions process is of high quality, transparent, and credible.

The Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), is likely to include a marketplace in the JAMB portal where universities can request students in Nigeria who meet their cut-off points.’

However, the system is set up in such a way that institutions can only admit students who match certain criteria. If a candidate fails to make the cut-off figure, he or she will very be denied admission, regardless of family ties.

CAPS not only automates the procedure but also introduces several new features. These are some of them:

  • opportunities for candidates to confirm provisional admissions, thereby reducing cases of candidates abandoning admissions;
  • marketplace for institutions to source candidates from the available pool based on various criteria such as JAMB score, state, local government, and even gender of the candidates.
  • The requirement that all candidates awaiting their O/L results, post their results to the JAMB portal before being accepted for admission
  • Finally, admissions can be processed in batches and in real-time, and candidates can check their admission status on the JAMB portal at any time.
